No sound since the driver update

The mixer opens, the bars move, and the speakers stay quiet.

I put in the new driver disk on Friday. The card is found at start and nothing is marked with a warning, but no program makes a sound. The line SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 is still in the start file.

What I have tried

Taking the card out and putting it in the next slot
The old driver, from the disk that came in the box
Another pair of speakers

What the machine is

A 166 with 32 MB, one sound card and a modem that wants the same interrupt.

That last line is your answer. Move the modem to interrupt 3 and the card will speak again.
