Student Handbook

Section 3 of 7. Revised September 1997 by the school office.

3. Workshop rules

The bench rooms are shared by three year groups. These rules keep work, tools and fingers safe.

3.1 Your bench

Each student is given a numbered bench and a drawer key in the first week. The number is also your locker number and the first part of your computer name, for example bench27.

  • Clear the bench top at the end of every session.
  • Work left in a vice overnight must carry a ticket with your name.
  • Report a lost key to the technicians the same day.

3.2 Machines

Lathes and the wheel-cutting engine

No student uses a powered machine before the technicians have signed the induction sheet. Eye protection is worn at every machine, including by anyone watching.
