Garden book 3 learns about frost

The new version knows the last frost for your plot, and plans the sowing around it.

Every spring the help desk gets the same letter: the beans went out a week too soon. So this winter we taught Garden book to read forty years of weather records. It now works out the last likely frost for your own plot and moves each sowing date to suit. The earlier notes tell how the records were gathered.

What changes in your journal

  • Sowing dates shift with the frost date of your plot
  • A warning leaf appears on tender plants in a cold week
  • Last year's losses are kept beside this year's plan

Nothing you have written is touched. The frost dates sit in the margin, and one click puts them away again.

Keeping your own records

If you keep a thermometer in the garden, its readings count for more than ours. Run chronoskin frost ~/Garden/readings.txt once and the journal uses them from then on.
