How it was drawn
The harbour office wanted one sheet a visitor could read on a windy pier. I rode every boat twice, once looking forward and once looking back.
What went on the sheet
Each pier gets its own colour and each boat a line in that colour. The file that keeps them apart is called piers.txt, and it is the most useful thing I made all year.
- North is where the big crane is, not where the compass says
- Crossing times are drawn as distance, so a slow boat looks far
- The cafe that sells tickets is marked twice, on purpose
What stayed off
Depths, buoys and anything a sailor needs. This is a map for people with ice cream, and it says so in the corner.
