Handbook

Short answers for the days when something has to go out.

Moving a feed

A feed is the address podcast apps ask for new episodes. Move it carefully and no listener notices; move it carelessly and they all have to follow again.

Before you change the address

Set the old address to forward for at least a month. In the feed file this is the line new-feed-url, and chronoskin writes it for you.

  • Keep the episode numbers exactly as they were
  • Publish nothing on the day you move
  • Check one app on a phone, not only the website

If plays drop afterwards

Give it a week. Apps fetch on their own schedule, and a quiet weekend is not a broken feed.

Still stuck?

Write to the studio desk with the name of your show. A person answers on weekdays.

Write to the desk
Will I lose listeners?

Not if the old address forwards for a month.

How long does a move take?

Most apps follow within a day.

Can I move back?

Yes, the same way, with the addresses swapped.
