The walk

Start early. The first tarn is in shade until ten and the last one is best with the sun behind you.

Getting there

Park at the chapel or take the valley bus to the bridge. The path leaves the lane by a stone stile marked FP 12 and climbs beside the beck. See the list of bus times before you set off.

  • Boots, not trainers: the middle section is wet all year.
  • No shelter above the second tarn.
  • Dogs on leads from March to July.

On the top

The cairn sits a little north of the true summit. In mist, follow the wall, not the path.
