HTML Help

Lesson 96: putting a tiled background on your page.

Tiling a background

Ten minutes, one small picture, and your page has wallpaper.

A background is a small picture that the browser repeats across and down the window. You name it in the body tag and the browser does the rest.

What you need

  • a tile from our shelves, saved as bricks.gif;
  • your page, open in a text editor;
  • somewhere to upload both files.

The one line to type

<body background="bricks.gif"
      bgcolor="#000066" text="#ffffff">

Always give a bgcolor near the colour of the tile, so your words can be read while the picture loads.
